 New Minnesota size Limit Law

Nothing over 800 cc's. How's this going to affect the T-cats and 1000 XTZ's registered in the past and all the dealers with the big machines sitting in the showrooms.

Well this is getting confusing.

I need to find a copy of last years rules and regs. I'm sure it stated that class 2 was 800 cc and up but this is the response I got from a DNR agent.

"The engine size of an ATV in Minnesota cannot be greater than 799 cc. This applies to Classes I and II. That law has never changed. The dry weight has always been the factor the factor that determines class. The new machines with engines 800 cc or greater cannot, at this time, be registered as ATVs in MN. Owners will not like this. Call or e me if questions.

I know there are 950 T cats and Prowlers being sold and have been registered in the state. HOW

Cool, then you can legally register your atv then for the road?

Yes but then comes the next problem.

Here is the response another guy got.

"'Because of it's engine size it would have to be registered as an ORV and would only be allowed to operate where ORVs could - No ATV trails, no shoulder of the road, no ditches. Seat belts would be required, etc."

You'd have to install horn, blinkers, seatbelts (how you'd put them on an atv I'm not sure) and any other requirement to make it road legal.

Then comes would it require a normal drivers license or would a motorcycle endorsement be required.

What a nightmare, good thing I don't need the biggest and baddest. ;D

Well that stinks if you want to buy a Polaris 850 or a not yet released Can Am SxS or one of the big cats. There has got to be a way around this.

Well I just got an email stating that they passed a size limit law change.

Increased the cc's from 800 to 960 cc's. Sounds like the manufacturers worked hard to get this done.

Not sure when it goes into effect but would guess soon.

There were some other changes that are going to make a difference when riding out of state or for those coming here. There will now be a trail pass required for out of staters to ride here

Go figure, the State that the big guys are built in bans them!!!!!!!!!!

It would look good if Polaris & Arctic Cat told the state that they are leaving to build elsewhere, eh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the major manufacturers going LARGE on displacement & UTV's I don't understand this?? But someone was thinking of how to make a buck, ban what sells in the state that makes them ;) Sounds like a government act ;)
